Junior B Championship
Rosemount 1-13
Moate 0-5
We had a comfortable enough win over neighbours Moate on Tuesday of last week in the park. From the time Cathal Keane kicked over the first point after five minutes we managed to keep our noses in front. Team: Eoin Carberry, Peter Keenan, Derek Keenan, Eamon Boland, Luke Kelly, Enda Boland, Brian Clarke, David Mullen, Paddy Malynn, Ciaran Clarke, Cyril Elliffe, Cathal Keane, Barry Fielding David McCormack, John Keenan. Subs used: Kevin Connell, Liam McCormack, Eoin Reilly.
Our next outing is of course, Sunday next where we take on Ballynacargy in the Intermediate quarter final in Ballymore.
Leap of Faith
While not strictly gaa news, any day your local priest jumps from 13,000 feet, without a parachute, has to be worth a mention. Fr Tony didn’t have a parachute, but he was securely fastened to Karl Wade who thankfully did have one. Fr Gavin made the jump on Sunday last in Clonbologue to help raise funds to purchase another defibrillator. He expressed his gratitude to Karl, Padraig Brown, Eamon Duffy and of course ‘The Man Above’ for getting him down in one piece. A large group of supporters travelled to witness the jump. Well done Tony.

ACFL Div3
We followed up on our championship win over Ballinagore with a 3-14 to 6 points win over St Paul’s in Clonmellon last Saturday evening. This win sees us promoted to Div2 for next year. This division presently contains many of the intermediate teams along with senior sides like Killucan, Tubberclair and St Malachys, so we will find it very competitive indeed.
Minor News
Our minors lost out by the narrowest of margins to Moate in Hogan park last Thursday evening. Despite having to field without three of our regulars we gave a very good account of ourselves. We were fortunate to be only two points in arrears at the break, 7 points to 5, as Moate missed several scoring chances. We had a much improved performance after the break. An expertly taken goal by Theo Watts from nearly thirty yards midway through the half, kept us firmly in the game till the end. Final score, Rosemount 1-7, Moate 0-11
Our u14s gave us some excellent entertainment on Sunday last with a hard fought draw against St Michaels. Despite leading well at the break we allowed the visitors back into the game and found ourselves three points in arrears with the final whistle beckoning. However, Matthew Lynam was to be the saviour, when the keeper’s fingertips failed to hold his strike to the inside the post. Final score, Rosemount 3-4,St Michaels 1-10

Ballinagore 0-6
We qualified for the knockout stages of the championship with an excellent win over Ballinagore on Saturday evening last. Trailing by a point at the break we pulled out all the stops in the second period, finishing with seven points to spare. Moving Donal Boland to midfield seemed to give us the edge in that area. Again we had some excellent performances from the younger players including the two David McCormacks who got their first championship starts. It looks like we now meet Ballynacargy in the quarter final on Sunday week. Another daunting encounter awaits!
Minor News
Our minor team play Moate in their first championship game this Thursday in Moate at 7pm.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Mike Geoghegan and Alicia Fallon who tied the knot at a ‘neutral venue’ recently. We wish them many years of happiness together.
Westmeath U16s
Well done to TJ Fox who was a member of a very successful Westmeath u16 squad. They won the Gerry Reilly tournament on Sunday week last by beating Louth in Oldcastle and followed that up with an excellent performance against Sligo in the Fr manning cup final on Wednesday. Unfortunately Sligo had fractionally more left in the tank in extra time and finished three points to the good, 2-14 to 1-14.

ACFL Div 3
Rosemount 2-18
Loughnavally 1-5
A solid second half performance ensured us a comprehensive victory over Loughnavally in the park on Friday evening last. Trailing by a point at half time, 1-5 to 7pts, not many could have anticipated the final score. The introduction of Declan Mullen and more clinical passing helped to turn this game around. The first goal came courtesy of an excellent pass from James Geoghegan to the in running David Tone who rifled to the net. The second was a deft flick by Cathal Keane who deceived the advancing keeper. The final two games are not due till October, but one would hope that this league could be wrapped up long before then.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Paddy Wade, Stephen Darcy, Luke Kelly, Shane Tone(0-1), Patrick Boland, Patrick Keenan, Donal Boland(0-1), Declan Keane, James Geoghegan(0-1), Ronald Mullen(0-2), Cyril Elliffe, Cathal Keane(1-3), David Malynn(0-4), David Tone(1-3). Subs Used: Declan Mullen(0-3), Danny Fielding, DD McCormack, David McCormack Paddy Malynn.

Tang 1-15
We played Tang in the 2nd game of the championship on Friday last in Ballymore. This was a match where we needed to be firing on all cylinders and get a small share of luck in order to get a result. Unfortunately neither happened. Despite not winning many of the breaks at midfield we held our own till just before the break. Then their wing back made a incisive run, collected an excellent cross and put it past the helpless Eoin Carberry. We put several good movements together throughout, but failed complete the pass that would yield badly need scores. We now have a six week break before the next game with lots of work to be done.
Team: Eoin Carberry, , Enda Boland, Donal Boland, Luke Kelly, Shane Tone(0-1), John Keane, Patrick Boland, Declan Keane, David Malynn(0-1), Danny Fielding(0-2), Declan Mullen, Cyril Elliffe, James Geoghegan, Ronald Mullen(0-2), Danny Fox(0-2). INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Rosemount 1-08
St. Mary's 1-08
We needed a goal 3 minutes from time to salvage a draw from this encounter with St. Mary's in Moate on Sunday afternoon. We looked to be in trouble from the start with simple passes going astray and a succession of wides. By half time we trailed 1-4 to 3pts having played with a strong breeze. We had claims for a penalty denied by the referee when Declan Mullen was bundled over in the square but a free out was the outcome. The sending of David Mitchell before the break did help our cause somewhat. We upped our work rate a little in the second half but still found scores hard to come by. With 3 Minutes remaining, a long ball from Danny Fielding got the deftest of touches from Ronald Mullen on the edge of the square to deceive the keeper, bringing us on level terms. We followed with a rare point from play, by Cathal Keane a minute into injury time, to lead for the first time. We then conceded a free at the other end to allow St Marys a share of the points. We struggled for long periods in this game and can consider ourselves lucky to have a point in the bag.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Enda Boland, Stephen Darcy, Paddy Wade, Patrick Boland, John Keane, Shane Tone, Donal Boland(0-1), Declan Keane, Cyril Elliffe, David Malynn, Danny Fielding(0-5), Danny Fox(0-1), Declan Mullen, James Geoghegan. Subs: Luke Kelly for P. Wade, John Keenan for D.Fox. Ronald Mullen(1-0) For D. Mullen(inj), Cathal Keane(0-1) for J. Geoghegan.
FIXTURES/RESULTS
The next round of the championship is on Friday 14may in Ballymore. We will need to be more successful in finding the target, if we hope to pick up any points from this game.

ACFL Div3
Rosemount 0-10
Moate 1-10
A lack lustre performance in Hogan Park on Saturday last saw us lose out to Moate in the second game of the league. Moate were all fired up for this encounter and were good value for their half time lead of 1-6 to 3pts. Indeed, they could have been two goals further in front, were it not for the woodwork and a fine stop by keeper, Eoin Carbury inside the first ten minutes. Things improved slightly in the second period and a full compliment of subs was used in an effort to find our best fifteen. The majority of our points came from Danny Fox, and all but one of those from free kicks.
One suspects the management team will have learned much from this performance.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Enda Boland, Richie O’Brien, Peter Keenan, Ronald Mullen, John Keane, Paddy Wade, Declan Keane(0-1), Donal Boland, David Malynn, Danny Fox(0-7), Shane Tone, Cyril Elliffe(-0-1), James Geoghegan(0-1), Danny Fielding, Subs used: Declan Mullen, John Keenan, Cathal Keane, Patrick Boland, Stephen Darcy

The drop in school numbers is major cause of concern for our community which if not addressed will impact on all areas of our community: School, Football team etc, As Fr Tony highlighted in his weekly bulletin “for our community to remain vibrant there is a need for us to try and keep some of our young people living in the parish so that we can bring new life into our community in the years ahead”
Please note meeting will now take place on Friday 19th February @ 8.00pm in the Community Center to discuss this issue and see what our options of redressing same are. All organizations and interested members of the Community are requested to attend

U 21 Championship semi Final:
Hard luck to our U21 Squad which despite a very spirited performance went down to Mullingar Shamrocks in Tubber on Friday night. We had our share of bad luck with a number close misses in the first 20 minutes at which time we eventually got our first point on the scoreboard. Mullingar Shamrocks who were 1.4 ahead at this stage didn't score again for the next 35 minutes at which stage we had scored 7 points without reply. Unfortunately our lads who put in a terrific effort ran out of steam and Mullingar who scored 3 points in the last 5 minute came out 5 point on top.
Our Club should take great satisfaction from this match which despite defeat showed we have some excellent and very talented young players . These players should make a big impact during the years ahead in regaining Rosemount's position as a major force in Westmeath football:
