ANNUAL ST STEPHEN'S DAY CHARITY GAME
26-12-2007
Rosemount and Tubber played a very entertaining game of football in O'Growney park Rosemount today which ended all square. Even with both sides short a number of regulars(not surprising on St Stephens day)this match attracted a large number of patrons who raise E1,734 for Charity .This year s nominated charity was the Caring for Kids Project which helps deprived children in Belarus, Ireland and Vietnam. Great credit was due to both sides which included Rosemount mentors Padraig Maxwell and David Keane with referee Pat Fox holding the goalie position. The final score was 2.06 to 1.09 and while some people would say the referee lost his pen no one would dispute the spirit in which this annual event was played and well done to all concerned.

LEINSTER JUNIOR FINAL
16-12-2007
ROSEMOUNT 1-06 CLAN NA GAEL 0-15
Rosemount's most enjoyable year came to an end when Clan Na Gael (Athboy Meath Champions) beat us in the Leinster Final at Navan this afternoon. We got off to a great start going ahead by 1.05 to 0.03 points after 15 minutes- but Clan had oher plans and by half time they were ahead by 1 point. Great credit was due to our lads who despite enormous pressure held Clan scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the second half. Clan then added point by point to win in the end by 6 points with a scoreline of 0.15 to 1.06 with Rosemount getting only one score in the second half. This was a great game of football and our lads fought hard right up the final whistle.
We missed a few scoring chances but in fairness Clan were a much stronger team and we wont be surprised if the win the last 2 remaining games in this Competition where we wish them the best of luck.
Congratulations to our players and mentors for giving our supporters and the community as a whole a great year's entertainment.

LEINSTER SEMI-FINAL REPLAY

ROSEMOUNT 3-11 BALLINAKILL 2.05
Congratulations all round on a great victory today when we beat Ballinakill by 3.11 to 2.05 in the Lenister Semi Final replay. We were well on our way at half time with scoreline 3.07 to 0.03. However we let Ballinakill in for 2 goals in as many minutes half way through the second half. When the Louth referee Paul Finnegan (whom both sides will agree was most consistent and very fair) blew the full time whistle we were 9 points ahead.
Again well done to all concerned and we wish John Keane who received an accidental knock a speedy recovery.
We take on Athboy (Clan Na Gael) in the Leinster Final in Navan at 2.00 PM. on Saturday next 16th December.

ROSEMOUNT IN WONDERFUL LEINSTER SEMI-FINAL
26-11-2007
Rosemount travelled to Abbeyleix on Sunday last to play the Laois champions, Ballinakill, in the semi final of the Leinster Junior football championship. Following a pulsating 80 + minutes including extra time the sides finished level and must come back to Rosemount for the replay. This game is fixed for Sunday next 2nd December at 2.00pm .
This was football at its best with both sides giving it their all. This game was played in a very sporting manner by both sides (even though if you were to judge by the Offaly referee Con Costello who issued 11 yellow cards one could think otherwise)

Rosemount started in full flight and had three points on the board in as many minutes. Ballinakill settled however and points were traded for the remainder of the half. During this first half Rosemount had some great points leading by 3 points at the break with scoreline 0-9 to 0-6 .
Ballinakill started the second half at the same intensity as Rosemount had started the match and very quickly equalised matters at 0-9 each. The ever-impressive Donal Boland kicked a superb point to put Rosemount back in front. However, at this stage Ballinakill picked off a number of points to move 0-12 to 0-10 ahead .With little over four minutes left It looked as though Rosemount were in trouble and our journey in this Leinster Championship was about to grind to a halt. However their heart ,pride and determination came to the forefront in those final few minutes as they launched a final attack to try to pull the contest from the brink. Danny Fielding pointed a free to reduce the deficit to the minimum . Then in a welter of excitement Shane Tone was fouled in what Rosemount supporters felt should have been a penalty .The foul was adjudged to have taken place outside the large square and Danny Fielding tapped over the resultant free to send the match to extra time. The final score after sixty minutes was 0-12 each.

The first period of extra time produced three points for both sides - Cathal Keane, David Malynn and another Danny Fielding free but Ballinakill never let us up by more than 1 point leaving it 15 each at half time in extra time. Both teams tried hard for the winner in the second period of extra time and Rosemount supporters were again agitated when Shane Tone appeared to be fouled by the Ballinakill goalkeeper but the referee again waved play on. The game was eventually blown up rather surprisingly as Rosemount drove the ball into the Balinakill danger area when the referee blew the final whistle.

Rosemount will be delighted to have another chance on Sunday and home advantage should be worth a couple of points. Our club can be very proud of the fantastic efforts of their players and management .We can be certain that these players will go into the replay in a very determined fashion as they bid to reach a Leinster final.

Well done to our Junior team who beat Ballykelly by 0-08 to 0-07 in the Leinster Quarter Final today . This was a great game of football with only 1 point separating these teams throughout the game. Ballykelly were ahead by 1 point at end of normal time but due to a number of stoppages this game had 9 minutes of extra time .Two well taken points by Cathal Keane and Shane Tone during injury time sealed this game for Rosemount .We now play Ballinakill of Laois in the Semi-Final in Ballinakill on Sunday 25th November.

ROSEMOUNT 1-11 MILLTOWN 0-08
Well done to Rosemount on winning the Junior Cup Final by beating Milltown 1-11 to 0-08 in Rosemount today. After trailing Milltown 0-5 to 0-3 at half time both teams were level when refree John Jo Brady blew the final whistle with the game going to extra time. Eight minutes into extra time great work in the backline got the ball down field to Shane Tone who passed the ball to Danny Fielding. Danny made no mistake putting the ball in the net to give Rosemount a 4 point lead at half time. The fitness level stood to Rosemount who had 6 points to spare at the end.
Our next game is in the 2nd round of the Leinster Championship against Kildare Champions Ballykelly next Sunday 2.30pm in Rosemount.

LEINSTER JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
28-10-2007
ROSEMOUNT 0-14 DUNDALK YOUNG IRELAND 0-04
Rosemount representing Westmeath as junior champions played host to the Louth Champions Dundalk Young Irelands in the Leinster championship on Sunday last. The Rosemount club pulled out all the stops to make this a great occasion both on and off the field where success was achieved on both counts.

Missing first team players in David Tone, Danny Fox, John Keane and Ronald Mullen the fifteen players on the field did themselves and our club proud by ending up with a 10 point victory with score 0-14 to 0-04.

Heavy showers prior to the game fortunately subsided and we had a lovely autumn setting with the sun shining for the match. The game got under way when referee P Faughnan from Dublin threw in the ball after Stephanie Keenan sang AMHRAN NA bhFIANN in front of a large gathering of supporters. Rosemount missed a lot of scoring chances in the first half but facing a stiff breeze were happy enough to be in front at halftime with score 0-4 to 0-2 .
Young Irelands registered their first score of the second half in the forty sixth minute at which stage Rosemount were well on the way to their first Leinster victory which they eventually won by 10 points. Rosemount now play Ballykelly Kildare champions in Rosemount at 2.00pm on Sunday 11th November

Great credit is due to the committee and helpers who pulled out all the stops for the home game against Young Irelands. The ladies who did the catering for players and supporters alike, our own designed programme production, PA system, Press box, MC who did a splendid job, Stephanie who sang AMHRAN NA bhFIANN, those who assisted with tidy up on Saturday and to everyone who assisted in any way a big thank you.

It was great to see David Tone who had his knee operation on Friday down at the match on Sunday and we wish him a speedy recovery. We also hope Danny Foxs injury for which he is having test done this week is not too serious and that he is back playing with us soon again

Great to see one of our ex players Paddy Spellman and family (home on holidays from New York) at the game on Sunday. Paddy is committed to pushing our biweekly lotto on his return to the big apple !!(see link to last nights lotto results)

We want to take this opportunity to wish one of our players James Boland the best of luck when he represents Ireland at the International World Skills Competition in Japan in two week time. James is one of 28 contestants representing Ireland in 25 different skill categories competing with 800 contestants from 45 states worldwide. James we are very proud to have you representing Rosemount and Ireland and we wish you well. (We also hope your parents Jim and Anne who are travelling to give you support, enjoy the trip)

WESTMEATH JUNIOR FINAL 2007
21-10-2007
ROSEMOUNT 0-09 MILLTOWN 0-05
Rosemount captured the Hugh Daniels Cup and win the Westmeath Junior Championship beating a very strong Milltown team by 4 pts with scoreline of 0- 09 to 0-05 on Sunday. After spending a year in junior the ranks the milestone had been reached and everyone agreed the only way forward was up. After a very tough encounter in Cusack Park on Sunday the ROSES playing only their second junior final (last one was in 1928) came out victorious winners. We always knew this one would not be easy and a very brave Milltown side kept players and supporters alike on their toes right to the end when the referee Alan Mc McCormack blew the final whistle.

This was a low scoring game unlike the earlier rounds where both teams topped their respective groups with Rosemount having a more impressive record. Rosemount scored 8.79 to Milltowns 7.55, conceding 6.18 to 6.37 . In the opening five minutes Rosemount dominated the play having 6 wides in the first 5 minutes. Despite Rosemounts dominance the sides were level 0-3 each at half time. Milltown had their share of wides early in the second half but true grit and determination from the 19 players used on the day saw Rosemount hold out to win in the end by 4 points.

Players and supporters celebrated long into the night and indeed the next day when a number of players and team management took the Hugh Daniels Cup to our local national school. Master Scally thanked everyone for sharing this joyous win with the children and commented that a number of this team were also stars on the school team which won Comortas Na mBun Scoil (1999-2000).
