Celebration of John Keane achievements 2008
17th December 2008
Rosemount GAA and the Community at large turned out on Friday night last in large numbers to show their appreciation for John Keanes achievement in 2008. This event in the local community centre was attended by young and old who came out to congratulate John on the great year he had on the playing field.
Michael Hanevy, Club Chairman and MC for the evening welcomed all present and proceeded to show video clips of John in action for Rosemount, Westmeath and Ireland in the Australian Compromise Rules.
Michael said John was a role model and hoped the many young people present would aspire to the standard John has set. He also mentioned the fact that John was only of only 5 players who was selected for the 3 awards (All Star, Compromise Rules and GPA).
Fr Tony Gavin said that while it may be hard to find Rosemount on a map we should all be very proud of John who has certainly put Rosemount on the map in both a National and International footing with his skilled performance during the past year.
Tom Farrell, Co Board Chairman said he was very proud of John’s achievement both on and off the playing field. He said that one could have no better Ambassadors than John and Garry whom he had the pleasure of spending that last week with in San Francisco.
Tomás O'Flatharta, Manager Westmeath Football team said he has known John for the past 5 years and the standard set by John would be hard to surpass saying that John was a true Team Player in every respect. His dedication and commitment is an example for all to follow.
Minor board Chairman Michael King thanked John for his work with the underage players and in particular the Under 12’s, which John co-trained this year and Aaron Farrell, Captain of the U12’s made a presentation to John on behalf of the U12’s. Michael presented John with a hand drawn sketch which Michael did himself. The club presented John with a beautiful framed photograph which summarised John’s various highlights during the year.
John thanked the club and all the people who turned out on the night saying he was very proud of his club and that winning the under 12 tournament in Tubber last month was as joyous to him as any other achievement during the year. He urged other players to get involved with underage and commented that his success was in no small way due to his underage mentoring from Joe Keane and Eugene Keenan. John also urged the club to make Rosemount playing facility available when requested to train the county team during the year. John then presented the club with an Ireland International Rules jersey signed by all the Australian rules squad
Hospitality was provided by the ladies who looked after all present before heading to the Stile where celebrations continued till late.

AGM
24-11-2008
Item 1
AGM
We held a very successful AGM on Saturday night last. A large attendance reflected on what has been an indifferent year for the club, culminating in survival in the intermediate grade, after a playoff with Caulry. Most of the attention centered on who would take the chair and attempt to fill Mixie’s shoes/wellies. Michael Hanevy emerged as successor and was wished every success in the new post. He is ably assisted by Niall O’Brien who replaced Pete Keenan as secretary, and Tony Mullen who remained on as treasurer. The outgoing chairman and committee also received some well-deserved commendation for their work over the last 5 years. Other topics for discussion on the night were the success of the astro turf, the playing surfaces of both pitches and the ongoing fixtures debacle.See Secretary's report item 4
ITEM 2 24-11-08
ACFL
Rosemount 0-5
Caulry 0-5
We played out a low scoring draw with Caulry in testing conditions in Rosemount on Sunday. Both teams are to be commended on serving up some decent football given the weather and some strange refereeing decisions. Team: Richie O’ Brien, Enda Boland, John Keane, Paddy Wade, Patrick Boland, Tom King, Shane Tone, Declan Keane, David Malynn, James Geoghegan, Cathal Keane, Declan Mullen, Danny Fielding, Donal Boland, David Tone, Martin Loddick, Derek Keenan, Barry Fielding.
Item 3 24-11-08
U12s
The under 12 team finished of their season with a great win over neighbours Moate on Wednesday night last. This was the final of the 13-a-side Tubber tournament. Both teams played some excellent football and great credit is due to their respective managers for the way they acquitted themselves. Thanks to Tubber for inviting us into this tournament. Well done to manager, Marty Healy who availed of some All-Star assistance. We wish Darren O’Connell a speedy recovery after a short stay in hospital.

Annual General Meeting 2008 Secretary’s Report.
I would like to welcome you all to our 2008 AGM. I want to thank all those who helped in any way with the running of our club in the past year and I say a very special thank you to my fellow Committee Members who have worked tirelessly for the betterment of our club and Community.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Father Tony Gavin to the Parish, He has a keen interest in GAA and will be very valuable to our Community.
Football.
We are very privileged and Proud to have a footballer like John Keane in our Parish. He is the only footballer in the County with two All-stars and this year he was picked to represent the Irish team in Australia where he played a major Role in helping them win the Cormac McAnallen Trophy. He was also picked as the corner back in the GPA Team of 2008. This is a huge honour to himself, his family, our club and his County.
Underage – Many thanks to all our Trainers, Mentors and Parents, great praise should be given to all those who organised tournaments and trips away with various teams in all underage grades. I also want to mention the Minor Committee and thank them for all their hard work and commitment during the year. I would like to thank the National school Principal Micheal Scally for his work with Commortas na Mbun Scoil.

Football
Our footballers worked very hard this year but unfortunately we had to fight to stay in Intermediate Level, our Junior B’s are still in contention for a place in the semi final and we wish them the best of luck.
We would like thank our Manager Des Collins and his selectors Padraig Maxwell, James Kelly and Bernie Carroll for all their hard work and commitment during the year.
Ladies Football
We greatly appreciate the Moate Ladies Football Club for taking in and looking after all our Talented girls. This year they have won the Under 14 Final and were unfortunately beaten in the Intermediate Final. Many thanks to all who helped out. Congratulations to the Moate Community School Girls who won the Leinster Schools Final.
Defibrillator
We now have 2 defibrillators in our Community. The 1st was installed outside the Parochial House early this year. 18 people are now trained in the use of the defibrillators. Next year we hope to organise a training session so that we can have our own Defibrillator Trainers in the Parish as it is very important to have as many people as possible trained in the usage of these valuable and life saving machines. Our 2nd Defibrillator is now installed in the GAA grounds.
Web Site:
A lot of interest has been shown on our web site www.Rosemount.i.e. . This web site while still in its infancy stage contains a host of information-photos and is of particular interest to people from Rosemount who are living away from home it doesn't matter whether you are in other parts of Ireland, USA, or elsewhere local news is a means of keeping in touch with our community. We would like more people to contribute news items which would be of interest.
Lotto On Line:
The lotto on line is another means not only of bringing in additional lotto sales but in conjunction with our web site a bi-weekly newsletter is automatically circulated to all on our circulation list. We would encourage all members to promote this means of lotto sales and ask each member to provide the club with the email address for as many of their colleagues as possible. Some clubs are taking in an excess of €1,200 a week in online lotto sales.
300 Club Draw
Tickets are on sale for our 6th 300 Club Draw and you are all invited to attend the first draw which takes place in the “Stile” on 20th December. This draw has been a very important part of our fundraising where you can see the vast majority of our subscribers have also won a prize. We hope you will continue to give your support with our latest draw. Since its inception in 2004 you have contributed in excess of €84,000 to our club with 360 individuals purchasing tickets and 260+ winning a prize during the past 5 draws
Park Upkeep
Many Thanks to our CE Worker Bruno for all the work he has done on the grounds, in the dressing rooms, sheds, toilets and surrounding areas. He has solved the huge rubbish problem that caused an unsightly mess in our grounds. We thank Bruno for mowing the pitch twice a week during the summer as it has been admired by many on how well it is looking.
We had a new septic Tank installed last March and I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to help, to those who supplied diggers and to all who worked for 8 to 10 hours that day.
Park Development & Astro turf.
It is great to see that our Walking Track and Astro Turf are being used every night of the week. The new pitch is used by both young and old. In conjunction with our new Dressing Rooms, walking track, training pitch and our Community Centre we have one of the best GAA facilities in the county and its a great addition to our community. It is a credit to all involved and the hard work that went into these worth while projects. I would like to make a point about the sign in the Park about the prohibition of all dogs except for guide dogs. Their is now a requirement from the GAA headquarters in Croke Park regarding health, safety and insurance which every club has been told they must enforce.
Membership – Our club membership is due again as it is the start of the year. The Membership Fee is €20 per Adult and €50 per Family. I would encourage all Families to join as this also covers the walking track. The social membership for the walking track is €20 per adult or €30 per couple
Sponsors – I would like to thank our many generous Sponsors who once again ensured that our club was never short of Finance to carry out activities deemed necessary. On behalf of our club supporters I say Thank You most sincerely.
In Conclusion I would like to thank all those who participated in everyway throughout 2008. To our Representatives who attended the County Board Meetings, our Medical assistance, our CE worker, those who provided refreshments and looked after the jerseys and others who I may have forgotten to mention and helped out in any way during the year. We as a community are very lucky to have such dedicated and willing parishioners who make themselves available when needed even at such short notice.
I would like to thank my Family who have put up with me and helped me out greatly over the last five years.
I wish my successor the very best of luck.
Go Riabh Maith Agat.

He asked parishioners to be patient with him until he gets to know his way around and he is looking forward to meeting as many parishioners as possible during the coming months. Fr Tony thanked the community for the welcome he received during his first 24 hours and said this community has a reputation which was the envy of many in the dioceses. Not a good week on the playing field with 2 defeats.
24-08-2008
Our Minors despite putting up a great performance lost out to Rochfordbridge who beat them by 2 points on Wednesday.
Our Intermediate team in what was one of our worst performance this year were beaten by Ballynacaragy in our second last round of the Championship . Hard to believe that this team who had a great game and were unfortunate not to get at least a point out of Shandonagh 2 week ago were down 1.11 to 0.4 at half time . Despite many changes in the squad we still only scored 5points to Bals 2 in the second half with final result Ballynacargy 1.13 to Rosemount 0.9. We are now most likely to be in the position regardless of last match result against Tubberclair to be in a relegation play off which is not something anyone looks forward to.

We have only 2 games remaining and having watched Tubberclair beat Milltownpass later tonight we certainly have an uphill battle on our hands.

We played Milltownpass in the Intermediate championship at Kilbeggan on Friday last. Against the elements in the first half we were down 3 points to 2 points at half time. ACFL
Our division 3 team picked up another two points on Friday evening last with a rather facile win in Ballycomoyle. With a final score of 6-21 to 2-3 one would have to question the benefit of this match to either side and wonder how these two teams ended up in the same division.
Defibrillator
The club have purchased a defibrillator. The unit has been mounted on a pier, in the yard of the priest?s house. By locating it here, it is intended that the defibrillator be accessible to the entire community. It is also hoped that a second unit can be purchased by the community, which will enable us to move the existing one back nearer to the playing fields. A number of people have already been trained on how to use the unit and a leaflet carrying further details will be circulated in the near future. An information meeting will take place next week to explain operational details, trained personnel etc, (see notice in shop when details are confirmed)
Membership
As a result of a letter that circulated to all players, a large number of memberships have been received. Outstanding memberships can be forwarded Tony Mullen, Helen McCormack, Michael King or any committee member.

Intermediate Championship
The County team preparations for game against Dublin has deferred most of the Westmeath Championship games this week which means that our second round of the Championship against Milltownpass that was to be on this weekend is now off . Instead we now play Ballycomoyle in the ACFL Division 3 in Ballycomoyle at 19.00 on Friday next 13th June.
Congratulations to John Keane and his Westmeath team mates on a well merited victory over Offaly in Tullamore last Saturday night. This sets them up for a fourth meeting with Dublin since January.
Underage
Our u14s have an away fixture with Killucan on Monday while the u12s are at home to Maryland/Tang on Wednesday.
We wish Moate ladies u12 them the best of luck in the county final on Wednesday night in Castledaly. They are up against Garrycastle who got the better of them earlier in the year. We?ll be hoping the tables can be turned in the final. This team features a host of local players including, Grace Kelly, Niamh Geoghegan, Sarah McCormack, Nicola Mullen, Michelle King, Mairead Fox, Rosemary McLoughlin, Emma McCormack, Ciara O?Neill, Sandra Nestor, Rachel Kelly and Eva Kelly.
Well done to Grace and Niamh on being chosen for the county u12 panel.
Well done also to TJ Fox, Darren King and Peter Elliffe on their selection for the county u14 panel. Darren and TJ were also key members of The Marist College team who won the Bro. Hubert Cup, defeating St Mary?s CBS after extra time.
UNDER 21 CHAMPIONSHIP

ROSEMOUNT 1-07 CORALSTOWN-KINNEGAD 4-08
Our under 21 team went down tonight to a stronger Coralstown-Kinnegad combination after a very hard fought game under lights in Kinnegad. While we were down 1 point at half time with scoreline 2-01 to 0-06 we still looked the stronger side. Both side exchanged goals after half time before Coralstown -Kinnegad began to widen the gap to 6 points. Again with great determination we pulled back 3 points in a row before another brace of points and eventually a goal put the game out of our reach. Great credit is due to the full squad who never gave up right to the final whistle with the final score 4.08 to 1-07.
UNDER 21 CHAMPIONSHIP
ROSEMOUNT 1-10 KILLUCAN 0-10
01-01-2008
Well done to our Under 21 team who beat Killucan on Sunday with a scoreline 1-10 to 0-10. This was a terrific game of football with both sides locked until Rosemount got a penalty for which Danny Fielding made no mistake close to full time. It was a great victory for Rosemount who were missing David Tone,Danny Fox and Patrick Boland. We now play Coralstown/Kinnegad in the next round under lights this Friday 4th in Kinnegad at 7.30 pm.
