GAA
We played our final 2 games in the ACFL Div 1 league in the past week. We have had a fine campaign to date but us sitting just off the top 3 in the table going into our two final league games. We played St Mary’s Rochfortbridge last Tuesday at home. We started at a fast pace with points from Sean Pettit, Plunkett Maxwell , and a fisted Theo Watts effort. St Mary’s slowly got themselves going, working a few short kick outs, moving the ball well and kicking 4 points in a row. A Declan Mullen goal , a Dude McCormack point by play as well as another point from a free left us 1.09 to 0.07 up at half time. The Second half was much the same as the first with St Mary’s picking off some points, and us replying to keep a healthy lead. A goal in the final few minutes by Deccie Mullen as well as points by Dude McCormack and Sean Pettit gave us the win on a score line of 2.15 to 0.10. Team: Darren O’Connell,  Padraig Nestor Andy McCormack, Damien Carroll, Plunkett Maxwell. Eamon Boland, Boidu Sayeh, David ‘Dee Dee’ McCormack, Israel IIunga, David ‘Dude’ McCormack, Enda Boland, Shane Tone, David Tone, Declan Mullen, Sean Pettit. Subs used – Theo Watts, Luke Kelly, David  Fox, Darragh Healy.

Rosemount v Coralstown Kinnegad
Our final game was played last Friday evening away to Coralstown Kinnegad. While missing 6-7 from the previous game, it was a chance for other players to come and stake a claim for the championship , and that they very much did. It was a tightly contested first half with both defences on top, Kinnegad started brightly , going 4 points to 1 up after ten mins. We got ourselves into the game, a fine point by play by Cathal Byrne who made his senior debut got us off the mark. This was quickly followed by a marvellous point by Plunkett Maxwell off his left foot, to leave the half time score Kinnegad 7 points to 4 up. The lads emerged from the half time team talk and really pushed on again. It was very much tit for that most of the second half , Kinnegad went 4 points up but we slowly tipped away cutting there lead down to a single point when Plunkett Maxwell ran forward and got on the end of a fine move to drive the ball low to the net. This was followed by a David Fox Free , and a brilliant Deccie Mullen point from way out on the left hand side.  Ben Cox added two more points from play half way through the second half. Some fantastic scores by both sides then followed. Kinnegad kicked 3 long range points, but we responded with arguably the score of the game. Padraig Nestor picked up the ball 45 yards out, ran through the entire Kinnegad defence and finished the ball in the top corner of the net to put us 1 point up with ten mins to go. A tight finish ensued , a late David fox free put us one point up in injury time. Kinnegad we’re pushing for an equaliser, a long ball into the square followed, we lost possession rather easily and Kinnegad struck for a goal to put them two points up. Our heads dropped a bit , and from the resulting kick out Kinnegad got through for there second goal in as many minutes. That being said, as our supporters left Kinnegad that evening, even though the result didn’t go our way , the talk was all about the huge effort and work rate the lads put in over the 60 minutes. Every player gave 100% and more , and that is all anyone can ask of them. A very encouraging performance despite the result. Round 2 vs the same opposition to follow in the championship in a few weeks time, again I’m sure will be a ding dong battle.

Team: Darren O’Connell, Damien Carroll,  Andy McCormack, Padraig Nestor, Plunkett Maxwell, Eamon Boland, Darragh Healy, David ‘Dee Dee’ McCormack, Enda Boland, Cathal Byrne, Declan Mullen,  David Fox, Ben Cox, Richie O’Brien, Paidi  Keenan. Subs used: Colin Boland , Padraig Fox

We started brightly, with scores from Sean Pettit, Dude and Andy McCormack followed by a Declan Mullen goal putting us 1.04 to 0.01 up. Tang then rallied, kicking a couple of points from frees to reduce the deficit at half time by 1.06 to 0.07. The lads up the anti for the second half , completely taking control of the game. Sean Pettit began the second half as he did the first, kicking two fine points. We pushed on again , with points from David Tone, Boidu, Sayeh as well as 2 points each by TJ Fox and Dee Dee McCormack. David Fox then kicked the last point of the game to give us a well deserved win by 2.15 to 0.11. Team: Darren O’Connell, Damien Carroll, Andy McCormack, Padraig Nestor, TJ Fox, Enda Boland, Boidu Sayeh, Dee Dee McCormack, Israel Ilunga, Shane Tone, Theo Watts, Dude McCormack, David Tone, Declan Mullen, Sean Pettit. Subs used: Cathal Daly, Luke Kelly, David Fox.

We played Ballymore last Saturday evening in ACFL Div 5 on a dry sunny afternoon, in what were perfect playing conditions for the game. The performance once again like our last game vs Garrycastle turned out to be an impressive one. Some well worked moves led in the opening minutes led to points by Sean Pettit, TJ Fox and Paddy Boland. We went in at half time 1.07 to 0.06 to the good with the goal scored by Sean Pettit. It was tit for that in the second half, we scored a penalty converted by Sean Pettit, and quickly added a third goal from Cathal Daly as well as a fine individual point from play by Liam O’Neill to finish the game off, and take the win on a score of 3.14 to 2.09. Team: Peter Fielding, Liam O’Neill, Padraig Nestor, Paidi Keenan, Cathal Byrne, Paddy Boland, Damien Carroll, TJ Fox Dan Boland, Cathal Daly, David Fox, Dan Digan, Sean Pettit, Richie O’Brien Colin Boland. Subs used: Neil Kelly, Stephen Darcy, Gerard Longworth, James Geoghegan. On a side not, it was great to see Paddy Boland, Stephen Darcy, and James Geoghegan back playing after a break away.
