Gaa SFC – We headed to TEG Cusack Park last Sunday to take on Caulry in round 3 of the SFC. We knew we needed a big performance and a win here, and the lads didn’t disappoint. We started brightly and took the initiative from the off, with some great scores from play by Sean Pettit and Dude McCormack. Cathal Daly then pounced for a goal after 10 mins. Another goal quickly followed with a goal by Dee Dee McCormack two mins later. This left us winning by 2.04 to 0.02 after 15 mins. Caulry then started to gain a foothold in the game, two fairly soft penalty decisions went against us then, with Caulry missing one and scoring the other which got them back somewhat in the game at half time. Half time score 2.06 to 1.03. The Second half started, with a Theo Watts point, but the scores very much began to dry up like our last two games. Caulry started to put us under pressure. It was a tense finish, Caulry tagged on two points from two soft frees that were awarded to them. Boidu then popped up on top of the left to kick a great point to put us 4 ahead. Caulry replied with another free, but we held out a nervy finish to win by 3 points in the end. The lads deserve great credit, there was huge pressure on them coming into the game as it was a must win and they rose to the challenge.  There was some outstanding individual performances especially by three of the younger players on the team, Plunkett Maxwell, Padraig Nestor, Damien Carroll, and everyone to a man stood up and gave there all. Job done, and we move on to Castledaly in the next round. Well done lads. We would like  to wish Caulry player Robert Hickey a speedy recovery after picking up an injury in the first half. Team:

Eoin Carberry, Padraig Nestor, Andy McCormack, Damien Carroll, Darragh Healy, Darren King, Boidu Sayeh, David ‘DD’ McCormack, Enda Boland, Shane Tone, Theo Watts, Plunkett Maxwell, David ‘Dude’ McCormack, Cathal Daly, Sean Pettit. Subs used Luke Kelly & Israel Ilunga.
Minor Championship – Tubberclair was the venue last Wednesday evening , as our minors took on the home side in round two of the Minor championship. It was very much a game of two halves, we conceded 3 very soft goals in the first half, to leave us 6 points down at half time. The lads got a few things straightened out at half time, and quickly set about turning things around quickly in the second half. We began to take control. Ben O’Brien, and Matthew Farrell were leading from the back, Lorcan Daly put in a huge shift in midfield, and Ben Cox and Jordan Nugent were showing up very well in the forward line. It was a tightly contested game with only 1 point between the sides heading to the final ten minutes. We managed to tag on 2 frees and a 45 to seal a 4 point win in the end. We now play St Mary’s in the final group game in two weeks time. Final score: Rosemount/Castledaly 1.19 Tubberclair 3.09. Team: Cathal Dolan, Matthew Farrell, Cathal Byrne, Ben O’Brien, Frank Hanevy, Liam O’Neill, Tom Martin, Lorcan Daly, Colin Boland, Aaron Nugent, Kevin Stone, Michael Killian, Ben Cox, Jordan Nugent, Ciaran Hanevy. Senior Football Championship:
We headed to Cusack Park full of hope last Saturday evening for our first round game in the Westmeath SFC. Unfortunately as the game went on our hope very much started to fade. It was a tightly contested game. From playing Kinnegad a couple of weeks back in the league, they proved to be ultra defensive, and they applied the same tactic again last Sunday. Unfortunately we didn’t seem to have any plan to try and counteract this, and we struggled to break down a well organised and well marshalled Kinnegad defence.
The game started at a slow pace, we got our first score with a great point from play from Dude McCormack off his left foot. Kinnegad replied with there own point from play as well as two poor frees given away by the defence which Kinnegad converted. A great flowing move down the field involving Davey Tone, and Deccie Mullen resulted in a fisted goal by Darragh Healy who made a great run forward from wing back. A decent first half performance by the lads ended with both sides level going into the half time break 1.04 to Kinnegad’s 7 points.
The second half started very much like the first, Kinnegad conceding most kick outs, and defending in numbers. Padraig Nestor was pushing forward at every chance, he found himself with a shooting opportunity out near the side line of the left hand side and kicked a fantastic point off his right foot. Unfortunately for us, the scoring in the second half started and ended there. A number of poor shooting chances came and went, as the game slowly slipped away from us. The game ended with Kinnegad winning on a score line of 0.12 to 1.05. The expression on the lads faces after the game very much said it all .
We now need move on to our next game, which is this weekend vs The Downs and learn from this game as all is not lost. We have a very good group of honest players and we have no doubt they will turn things around.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Damien Carroll, Andy McCormack, Padraig Nestor, Darragh Healy, Enda Boland, Boidu Sayeh, David ‘DD’ McCormack, Israel IIunga, Shane Tone,  TJ Fox, David ‘Dude’ McCormack, Davey Tone, Deccie Mullen, Plunkett Maxwell.
Subs used:  Darren King, Dan Digan, Cormac Palmer. We would like to wish Israel a speeding recovery after picking up a shoulder injury.

Junior Football Championship: We played Garrycastle at home last Thursday evening in the park, in the opening round of the JFC. Due to a numbers of injuries on the senior panel we had to go without a number of senior players and we struggled to compete. Garrycastle were in control from start to finish, and went on to win 5.15 to 0.07. Team: Darren O’Connell, Robbie Healy, Stephen Darcy, Ger Longworth, Cormac Palmer, Paddy Keenan, Lorcan Daly, Padraig Fox, Daniel Boland, Colin Boland, Richie O’Brien, Daniel Digan, Michael Killian, James Geoghegan, David Fox.
