Rosemount were well represented in this weekends hurling finals in TEG Cusack Park. Liam O’Neill, Cormac Palmer, Padraig Nestor, and Peter Fielding were part of the Fr Daltons side that won the Intermediate final yesterday, while David ‘Dude’ McCormack and Plunkett Maxwell were part of the Castletown Geoghegan side who won the Senior final today. Well done men.

It was a very busy week on the Gaa front with two senior and one junior championship games being played. Hogan Park Moate was the place to be last Tuesday night, for our eagerly awaited clash with neighbours Castledaly in round 4 of the SFC. With both teams on 4 points, a win here was massive for both clubs. Like the last day vs Caulry we started very well , and took the game to Castledaly in the first half with the aid of a light breeze. We scored our first two points courtesy of Dee Dee McCormack and Boidu Sayeh after two great runs forward. Another sweeping moved followed five minutes later, resulting in Deccie Mullen being brought down inside the area, referee Barry Kelly then blew the whistle and awarded us a penalty. It was a significant moment in the first half, but unfortunately we did not take the opportunity, Deccie Mullen stepped up, had the Castledaly keeper beaten but the ball came back off the crossbar. From the resulting play, we managed to tag on another point. Castledaly replied with a couple of scores from poor frees we conceded. Kevin Stone and keeper Jordan Nugent slotted them away easily to keep them in the game. We finally managed to get the all-important goal just before half time. Theo Watts got on a pass and off loaded nicely to put Deccie Mullen who ran through and finished to the back of the net. A long direct ball into Dude McCormack resulted in a point off his left foot. This left us in a good position heading towards half time , there was also two inspirational points by Full back Andy McCormack who made two runs forward which resulted in two points for him, one off his left and the other off his right. Half time score left us leading 1.10 to 0.05.
Castledaly emerged from the dressing room in the Second half a different team and started brightly with a score from another free. The intensity and physicality of the game had increased significantly at this stage, and it turned scrappy at times.
Castledaly launched a long ball into their full forward line, the ball broke their way and they scored a goal ten mins into the second half. This left 4 points between the teams. We responded well, Boidu made a searing run forward from inside his own half. And slotted over a point off his left foot. It was tit for tat after this with both sides scoring points. In the end we held ot for a four point win. It was a battle and a half in the second half but the lads can take confidence that we got though it and came out the the other side with a win.

Final score: Rosemount 1.13 to Castledaly’s 1.09.

Team: Eoin Carberry, Damien Carroll, Andy McCormack, Padraog Nestor , Darragh Healy, Darren King, Boidu Sayeh, David ‘DD’ McCormack, Enda Boland, Plunkett Maxwell, Theo Watts, Deccie Mullen, Sean Pettit, Cathal Daly, David ‘Dude’ McCormack.  Subs used – Luke Kelly, Israel IIunga, Shane Tone, TJ Foxe.
We then welcomed Tyrellspass to the park last Thursday night in the JFC. A depleted side took the field, with work commitments, a grad, and injuries taking its tole we still managed to put in a decent performance, in what was a tightly contested game. The first half was just this, with both sides trading points. Goals by Stephen Darcy & John Keenan kept us in the game for long periods, but Tyrellspass just did enough in the final ten minutes in the end to win by 5 points. Final Score was a win for Tyrellspass by 3.12 to 3.07. Team: Darren O’Connell, Robbie Healy, John Keane, Eoin Fagan, Peter Elliffe, Paidi Keenan, Aaron Farrell, Lorcan Daly, Stephen Darcy, Dan Digan, David Fox, Matthew Lynam, Damien Byrne, Richie O’Brien, John Keenan. Subs used: Vinny Cox & Liam O’Neill.

Our final game of the week and in the SFC took place last Saturday night on a dry and warm evening in Tubberclair where we took on Maryland. The lads knew our fate was in our own hands, a win was required and in knowing this the lads took the initiative from the throw in and never looked like giving it up. We opened our account after five minutes with a fantastic long range point out on the right by DD McCormack. A sweeping move down the field resulted in a fisted goal by Enda Boland. At this stage we were in control of the game and keeping Maryland’s attack at bay with tigerish defending. Our second gold came half way , the ball broke in the 21 yard line and Deccie Mullen hit a low soccer style shot low and hard to the left hand corner of the net. Two points by Dude and Sean Pettit finished the scoring from the first half with one point from each of them from frees to leave the half  time score with us winning by 2.04 to 0.04. The Second half started and at times was a bit scrappy. Dude stated off again kicking two frees. The next couple of minutes brought some hard Physical exchanges with Maryland now looking to get something out of the game. Our lads did not stand off, and never gave an inch up, especially around the middle third where DD McCormack, Padraig Nestor, Boidu Sayeh and Darren King were having an exceptional game. In the end a point from way out on the left by Boidu sealed a fine performance and the win.
Final score: Rosemount 2.10 Maryland 0.08.
